“Edible” is a series by Art Beauty and Culture that talks about one of our favorite subjects: FOOD. The greatest part about this series is here at ABC Land we only talk about foods that are organic and wholesome for the body. Therefore for a restaurant to be featured here on our platform, the restaurant really must have done their due diligence to provide the world with yummy organic foods!
Most of my friends appreciate organic eating, however they’re not quite as adamant about eating organic as its still not quite the most convenient lifestyle to live. So being that one person that goes “I’m sorry, but I don’t want to eat there because there is no organic option” can be frustrating for them. Luckily for me however, Cafe Gratitude exists and I can trick my friends into meeting me here because they’re not only healthy but they are also extremely adorable and draw in your coffee!
I say this because that is exactly how I convinced my best friend that lives in the West Side to meet me and another friend before an event at the YouTube Space LA. She loves adorable Instagram worthy places and I like organic eating, it was perfect. Even better was the fact that it was HAPPY HOUR, which meant we got to try a bunch of their foods for a great deal! We literally got one of each from the happy hour menu, a drink each, and shared a dessert. Thankfully and quite awesomely, the food was amazing and we really enjoyed our time there.
Let me just add that we literally devoured this cobbler shortly after it arrived. They use seasonal fruit, so for us, since it was around the end of May, we got the Strawberry Banana combination.
The staff at Café Gratitude in Venice are really nice, they are very willing to explain things to their guest. Going to this restaurant is a fun experience because they have a very well thought out positive concept. Every item on the menu has a positive adjective for a title and when you order, you have to say “I AM…” followed by whatever you are ordering. Additionally, your waiter will give you a “question of the day” which is always an great uplifting conversation starter! I think its a small touch but it really does add to the overall experience, my friends and I had a great time going around and sharing our thoughts and feelings.
I wanted to take time to talk about the drink I had called the Immortal (heh, I AM IMMORTAL). It is the bottom cup with a leaf in it. When I saw this drink on the menu, I instantly knew that I loved this restaurant. The drink was made up of many of the super foods that I had recently been introduced to, but hated taking because of their distinctly bitter or earthy flavors. What was amazing about this order was how delicious they were able to make it!
The Immortal is considered a “ayervedic tonic” which basically means that it is holistic tonic that connects the mind, body, and spirit. It consists of reishi, shilajit, mucun, raw honey, steamed almond milk, and cinnamon. How they were able to make this combination so delicious beats me, but I got it again when I visited this restaurant a few days later.
Another really outstanding part about this restaurant is their water. I know water is pretty basic, but you’d be surprised what type of poisonous concoctions you’ve really been drinking all this time. Ever since I found out about the fluoride and chloride induced tap water that is being used in California, I always take the time to ask restaurants that proclaim they’re organic what sort of water they serve and use to cook. Luckily at Café Gratitude, they have a triple filter that uses a reverse osmosis technology that cleans out all the nasty substances you would otherwise find in your water (even at home!).
